On the 14th we departed Bryan for the last time in a while; not intending to be back there until around the first week of October or so. Here is Buster supervising us prior to our first fill-up of the trip at the Kroger in Bryan. If you look close you can see the posted diesel price of $3.89 and with our Kroger discount we got our fill at $3.69 a gallon. For the fill of 53 gallons, about a half tank, that's $195.57.

Then we were off and the first stop was to say goodbye to our old friends in the New Braunfels and Canyon Lake area. One of our all time favorite places has been the Gristmill in Gruene and we met there for some good food and yak.

Here is a shot of the entrance to the Gristmill as well as of the Gruene dance hall famous for its patrons and performers like Willie Nelson and many other country stars. We were surprised that the place was hopping and packed on a weekday night.

Here are Ella (Pat and John's granddaughter), Pat and John Neely, Jo-Anne, Pat and Harvey Hueter, and the other ol boy in the crowd. It was a nice setting and the walls were all moved back so we could enjoy the outside air on a 70ish afternoon.

Great meal for all, good service, and having the good friends to enjoy it was wonderful!
