Flying Scotsman 2014

Yes, we did take the bus over to Camping World on the 12th of February.

And now it is the 18th of March ... yep, still there. Time moves slowly in the garage world. We presented them with a laundry list of items including:
- Replace the cracked shower pan
- Fix a roller on the living room slide out
- Fix a broken W/D door handle
- Replace the level lift jack hydraulic pump
- Replace the entry door hinges
- Replace torn slide out seals
   and a few more things
We have an extended warrantee from CW that should pay for most of the stuff but the insurance company balked at the huge labor cost for both the shower pan, $800 over that allowed, and the slide out roller, $900 over what the average labor should be, as charged by this local CW. So for now we will omit those two items for future repair shops to deal with. Total still is about $5,000.

The upside is that the RV is sitting in their lot for free when we would have to store it somewhere. And today we took it down I-35 to McClain's to have the state inspection and the propane tank filled as well as do some of the cleaning stuff we have ignored.

Tonight sitting on the porch at the apartment as we watched the golfers during a nice 80 degree afternoon is Bandit showing off his new spandex leisure outfit as he watches a dog go by.

And just in case we forgot that we were in Texas!!!

Date Nite

That's what they call it at the movie house, so we went. We walked out of the apartment entrance above and about 100 paces later arrived at the Look Cinema below ... no driving involved ... wonderful!

Neat place. The theater has several venues but we chose the Look and Dine one for tonight; we'll do the others later.  In the picture above you can see the Coal Vines restaurant  to the left and just off-picture to the right is the Nick and Sam's place we have talked about.

As you go into the theater you are met by several ushers who guide you to your reserved seat. And it is an airline type seat ... maybe a bit more room than that eh.

You hit the button on the arm and the attendant shows up to take your order. Let's see, "turkey and smoked ham club with avocado, bacon, lettuce, pepper jack and sweet potato fries; and also the chicken Parmesan sliders with marinara, mozzarella, basil and fries.

And with the bottle of wine opened by your wait person you sit back, push the button to extend the foot rest and watch the movie. There were about 10 of us in super cush seats in the theater that would normally hold 60. We saw "Non Stop" with Liam Neesom, which was great. And the food was absolutely perfect.

After the show after you walk out, you can go across the street and enjoy the park along the White Rock Creek which we have done a couple of times now.

As you can see we are starting to get out into our neighborhood here in the north Dallas area and see what is close by ... no driving please!!!

Road Trip

For our first trip in the Dallas area from the new apartment we ventured south toward  downtown and then across this structure.

This is the newly opened Margaret Hunt Hill bridge designed by Santiago Calatrava from downtown over the Trinity River to the area now called Trinity Groves.

Just over the bridge is parking and below this row of very upscale restaurants and bistros.

In front of the restaurant row is this Dallas ad that I sort of blended into. It was a really nice 68 degree day and perfect for a lunch outing with the bridge in the background.

But below is the real reason for the trip to this newly renovated part of town.

A really cool retro hot dog joint called Hofmann Hots. Neat. Below is a shot from inside the circular windows out onto the street and its art deco painting.

And the grub. A really extensive menu of exciting hot dog variations. Jo-Anne had the Sweet and Smokey Dog which was a kielbasa sausage with a maple glaze, smoked Gouda pimento spread, and chopped bacon with onion straws.

I had the Bavarian Dog with pretzel mash, pickles and mustard and tater tots. Really good and about $6 apiece.

Throughout the place were many wiener joke signs, from "I got the biggest wiener" and "grab your wiener now";  but the best for me was as I left ... again sorry!
